Hockey saturday, dunno what happened but I was up for it, the moment the game started i felt good about it all. I was played at left back, my favourite position and immediately started controlling the game. I held my position high and on our first attack i crossed a hard low one accross the face of the keeper, our 2 young forwards weren't ready for that one but it made them realise the sort of service they could expect.
Although we dominated the first half, we only mnanaged to score one in that period, I was striking shorts and hit the keeper but the rebound was slotted home so we went in to half time 1 up.
The second half started even better and one of the really good players had turned up, Joe Foot, and gave them something to think about on the right. I was distributing well and even able to get the ball straight to Joe from left back which means the game was very open, he got a couple of crosses to an older attacker who'd subbed on, Smithy who grabbed a couple of goals from a yard out as usual.
I took a few more short corners and we had a couple of moves worked out that kept the opo runners busy and guessing. i hit one straight in from top D to the keepers right that he didn't see then I got another goal dribbling in from left back, beat a couple of players and found myself at the top of the D again, I didn't need a second invitation so I struck it goal wards, not very cleanly and it bobled a bit but found it's way into the net, even bad golas count!
We won 6-1 and that puts us joint top of the league, watch this space, we'r playing Salisbury 2nds on saturday and I have no idea what they're like as they seem to blow hot and cold each season.
All week I've been suffering from a bad stomach so I hope I'm up to speed again on Sat, last nights training was a disaster and I need to talk to the captains again about the organisation as the numbers turning up are impressive for the club but seem to overload the pitch, something needs to change, I know as soon as it gets cold and wet the numbers will drop though.
Back to work.....
