General Election 2017

Well this is an interesting surprise, although it possibly shouldn’t be such a surprise. The opposition in all areas have been moaning about the Tory version of Brexit which is not a version; it’s what Britain voted for, leaving the EU and control of our own destiny.

This clever announcement will force the opposition parties to come up with, and publish to the general population, their way that they would negotiate Brexit deals with the EU. This is not what they were planning on, these opposition politicians are very happy being in opposition and lets face it, it’s the easiest job in the world, you come up with nothing just oppose everything that the ruling party come up with.

The lefty press, and many lefty friends of mine, keep going on about the country being ruled by an unelected leader, notwithstanding their incredible short memories about Gordon Brown, Britains worst ever Prime Minister, (And yet also many of them would happily remain in the EU and be ruled by their 7 unelected Presidents) they now have the opportunity to put up or shut up. If their parties come up with a white paper that more accurately reflects the requirements and expectations of the 52% who voted for Brexit then they may win the General Election. Personally I doubt it! I think the Brexit that we all expect is most closely represented by current Tory Policy.

Then there’s the other issues that are regularly talked about at General Elections:

NHS

The NHS is in crisis, there’s no doubt or argument about that, but our economy is leaking the vital funding that the NHS require to the EU, the pressure on the NHS is being increased by a possitive immigration figure due to open borders, on top of that, many of the EU citizens arriving here aren’t the elderly, they’re the younger working age groups which is great in some respects but also they are also the breeding age and that puts additional stress on the NHS. Brexit wont be a short term answer to this problem but it will make it more constant and more predictable. This means that the Management of the NHS can do some better planning, they may even have more money to spend due to stopping the flow of cash to the EU.

Education

As noted in the previous paragraph, many of the EU citizens arriving in the UK are bearing children which need to go into our schools system. This needs to be controlled at our borders. Teachers aren’t getting paid enough and the greater amount of cash available will mean that some of it might go into Teacher funding.

Scotland

I have a sneaking suspicion that the SNP will not fare so well in the General Election in June as the population of Scotland are probably getting fed up with Nichola Sturgeon making them look like the laughing stock of the British Isles, you’ve only got to watch the Tracey Ullman show to see what people think about her. That will be a particularly interesting element of this.

Economy

There may be some companies who feel that they need to leave Britain after Brexit but there wont be many, Britain has always been and always will be one of the top trading countries in the world, no international company can seriously ignore us.

I would like to see all trading to be VAT rated so that every company trades on an even level and there isn’t this massive step that needs to be taken at the £80,000 turn over point. To maintain profits and grow the business you need to grow by huge percentages at that point, many companies need 50% growth in that year to stay standing still. This wouldn’t be the case if all companies trading paid VAT as soon as they started up.

Conclusion

In short, it’s a great tactical move, it should shut up opposition parties for quite a while and stop many wingers harping on about having an unelected leader. I predict another good Tory win!
