Mad as a Hasher

Wild fun last night, met up with good friends from the Hardy’s Hash House Harriers at a local pub called the John Gregory, no idea why it’s called that or who he is or was. Mary, Liam & I  cycled there with the usual suspects, Dean, Alison and Mollie, and went on a hash laid by this week’s Hare, Doggy.

Hashing is a bit like a treasure trail, you run around following clues and signs, we use chalk and little piles of flour left behind lamp posts etc. Well, the trail took us through areas of Weymouth that I’ve never seen before and I had to stand and watch as Liam came through the soggy end of a field that I’d just been through, it was difficult to walk through the knee deep cow muck and urine mixture and to my surprise he did it and looked as if he was enjoying himself.

Doggy told me not to worry about that part so I guessed he had a lot worse in store for us and I was right, less than a hundred yards later was the river Wey and his trail took us right across it under the bridge of the by-pass road. A filthy river due to the fields of cow muck that feed it, we had to wade across, it was up to my armpits at one point, fortunately, I didn’t feel too bad because it was chucking it down with rain anyway so I was soaked through and the rain coulan off the bulk of the muck I’d gethered.

It took a while for all 30 of us to get across and the run went on for another 40 minutes after that so even though we were wet, I don’t remember being cold.

The John Gregory were really happy to see the 30 of us return to the pub as filthy as you like but I’m sure the owner wont mind when he looks in the till this morning.

Liam had to do a down down as he was a virgin hasher, Alison had to do one because she’d changed in the ladies loo into clean trousers and top but forgot her knickers so her crime was going comando! I got away without one this week, I was surprised at that because I did the whole hash with tall socks on given to me by Ben Ainsley, that were different colours, the red one has Port written on it and the green one has Starboard written on it, love those socks.

On on.
